Payment in Gold
Miami Shark Bar 31st March
Well it was a wet and wild week, and while it was not wet in the Miami Shark Bar, it was going to be wild with the Meanies hitting the stage, to some very dedicated fans. The Meanies had just had their Thursday night gig canned by the city flood evacuation, but at least they got paid! Saturdays night’s gig was in Lismore, and Cyclone Debbie was turning up, and as we know that was not going to happen.
First up was Nowhere Else, a power pop kick-arse three piece with a super-energiser bunny female lead vocal with real drive in her voice. The band exudes energy, and really seems to be giving there all to rock n roll in the war against the jive. I was talking to bassist, Zane, after the show and one thing you must check out is their last film clip up for an Best Music Video at the upcoming Gold Coast Music Awards. Shot with a 360 degree camera it is pretty awesome!!
Payment in Gold
Up next was Payment in Gold, a 3 piece with real grunge and drive, and the sharing and combined vocals really gave them a great sound. A bit like X meets Cosmic Psychos they pumped out some real rocking tunes. It was hard, heavy and no nonsense rock n roll with some Joe Dirt thrown in. Well work spending some gold to see.
The Meanies fans were there and a respectable crowd of around 100 punters were there to see the Meanies pump out their high energy good fun punk rock. They did not disappoint, fast, loud and moving it out for their fans. OK there were more than a few grey hairs in residence, but they were bouncing along, and seemed like the folks liked their new stuff as well as their old stuff. No shortage of energy from the crowd or the band, or Wally Meanie, climbing the speakers and going nuts at each opportunity. Not a big crowd, but boy they had fun, better than being flooded in at home. They finished off well with their version of Bored’s Feed the Dog, with had the band and all and sundry going nuts.
Come back soon, but next come outside cyclone season- I know a lot of my mates were spewing they could not get there..
